The Department of Agricultural and Food Economics focuses on the economic, policy and wider societal questions connected to the production and consumption of food and fibre in developed and developing countries including the impacts in policy relevant areas such as rural poverty, international development, the environment and dietary health. Our research is published in the leading international journals, we advise governments and international organisations and our alumni form an international network.We contribute to the University’s research theme of the Food Chain and Health Research Theme, we are home to the Collaborative Unit for Biotechnology Economics (CUBES), and we are responsible for conducting the Farm Business Survey in our region.
We teach EU and International students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our undergraduate degrees are BSc Food Marketing and Business Economics and BSc Consumer Behaviour and Marketing. Staff in the Department are responsible for course direction of the Graduate Institute of International Development and Applied Economics masters degrees in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Development Economics, Food Economics and Marketing, Development Finance, Social Development and Sustainable Livelihoods and Research Agricultural and Food Economics. The Department holds ESRC recognition for postgraduate training.
